The Striped Tomato was an indispensable protagonist in every episode. Hutch adored his car and always kept it in an immaculate, shiny condition. Starsky didn’t really care about his own car (the Galaxie), which was a true reflection of his (lack of) affection for cars …

Anyway, the Gran Torino came up with a remarkable performance episode after episode, and viewers got to know it as a wear-and-tear-proof partner.

And that’s exactly what made it iconic. Regardless of what age group they belong to there are hardly any men that don’t remember it. Even some of the ladies might recognize it, although it may not be the car model but the name of the two handsome cops that will ring a bell…
