It was the last model year of the first generation of Mustangs – with the highest sales figures so far – that was first introduced to the market in ´64 and rolled off the assembly line between 1971 and 1973. This was the longest existing Mustang ever, until the oil crisis of ´73 changed the standards of car production forever.

Since the early 1970’s, the growing importance of environmental regulations started to increasingly affect the trend in muscle cars that started in the mid-60’s. Due to these requirements this ´73 Mustang was officially rated for 264 HP only. Reality, however, looked much better: thanks to the carburetor and other Mach1 equipment it’s hard to drive it off without leaving wheel-marks on the asphalt.

The following Las Vegas car chase scene from the 1971 James Bond movie “Diamonds are Forever” provides a perfect example. The only difference is that the Mach1 seen in the movie is red instead of yellow…
